Aloha

MEG is back from Hawaii, and since Aloha means hello (and good-bye for reasons only Hawaiians would understand) I thought I would steal this graphic from her and welcome her back. She got to go to Maui. I'll try to be happy for her as I look out on my cold, foggy weather.

I lived in Oahu for 3 years. The weather was great. Although, if I had to live in enlisted military housing again, I'd opt out. Alaska would be better, IMO. Never mind, I'll just stay right here where I am -- in the woods where I can't even see neighbors, much less hear them. But the beaches are great. Unfortunately, you can't usually live at the beach unless you're independently wealthy... or homeless, maybe.

weird dreams

I thought I would start sharing weird dreams. I don't usually remember them at all. But this one was pretty funny when I woke up and thought about it:

I dreamt that Scott had told me that I could get myself some jewelry. I don't even like jewelry that much, so it seems unlikely from the start. I would definitely buy a book or something for the computer instead. Anyway, for some reason I decided to get on Ebay and look at jewelry.

And I saw some of the lamest stuff. One thing I looked at was a plastic Barbie ring that was supposed to be some sort of collector's item or something. It looked like something that comes out of one of those gum machines. But somehow when I looked it at, I had accidently bid on it, and it was some absolutely unbelieveable price, like over $3000. And of course I won the bid, so I was frantically trying to figure out how I could get out of buying this stupid thing. And then I woke up and was sort of half-awake trying to solve the problem for a couple of more seconds until I realized that it was a dream. When I was awake it was sorta funny.

Rush Limbaugh is back!

He will be back hosting his show on Monday! Way to go, Rush!

I'm so proud of him, and so glad I will get to hear him in a few days. His brother David was just on with guest-host Matt Drudge and announced it. You can be sure I'll be tuning in Monday.

Master Labyrinth

Last night was FHE again. Scott wasn't here, but we went ahead and had it anyway. Christopher chose the song, so we sang "I Love to See the Temple". I read the Proclamation on the Family. Then we played a game that the kids learned in Primary for a few minutes. After that we couldn't agree on what to play next, so I pulled out Master Labyrinth. We discovered this game while we were stationed over in Germany. It's kind of hard to find, and it was expensive when I bought it. I'm ashamed to admit that I never let the kids get it out before. I helped the kids set everything up and helped them learn how to play it. Anyway, Christopher is a genius at this game, and beat his older brothers and sister by over 50 points. There was quite a lot of bad sportsmanship going on, but at the end, I think it was all worth it. They seemed to enjoy it.

Festivus

We love Seinfeld, so I thought I would rename this post. I guess you could say we celebrated Festivus early. After all, we wouldn't want to ruin Thanksgiving and Christmas by airing our grievances then.

We took a trip to Branson recently, and I thought the trip would seem faster if we had something to talk about. Everybody has pet peeves, so I thought that would be a good topic. I was right, because we loved griping about ours for most of the long drive. I took notes, and here are the results. I'm sure there are more, but we won't add too many more this year. Celebrate Festivus with the rest of us by leaving your own pet peeves that you want to gripe about in the "Now you say something" below. Gripe as much as you want, it's therapeutic!

Mad Libs

We had another fun FHE last week. Ian gave a short lesson about baptism that was very good, and afterward, we played Mad Libs. You haven't lived if you haven't tried it. Even Scott and I couldn't help laughing. Here was our favorite one from last Monday:

WAITRESS AND CUSTOMER
Scene: A restaurant (where else?)

Customer: Oh, waitress! Would you please bring me a fan, I want to see what today's special is.
Waitress: Today's special is Piglet (our min. dachshund) sauted in cream of video tape soup. Does that sound good?
Customer: No, I'll have the roast prime sling blades of beef with the idiotic pudding.
Waitress: We're out of that. How about a sizzling sirloin Rice Crispie Treat and a gooey green salad?
Customer: No thanks, I'd rather have the slimy fried chicken.
Waitress: Sorry, but we're out of that, too. How about fried clock hand?
Customer: No thanks. Do you have any roast Long Island Lamp?
Waitress: No, but why don't you try our smart goulash with homemade cloud sauce?
Customer: Oh, never mind. Just bring me a difficult egg sandwich and a cup of black melted marshmallows.

Update: Mad Libs books can bought at bookstores, or you can find some free ones on the internet by doing a search. Someone fills in the missing parts of speech (adjective, noun, etc.) by asking for that part of speech from others in the room. The results are usually pretty funny.
