Y A D A * Y A D A * Y A D A

I didn't do that well today at getting Anything Done, plus I really wanted to eat tonight. But I persevered and didn't eat as much as I wanted to. Thankfully, tomorrow is another day.

I got a nap, which helped me overcome my serious silliness, and I feel like I'm in the world of the living again. Unfortunately, now that I have my second wind, it is time to go to bed. Scott is already there. He's pretty tired from the campout. I just want to be on the computer now.

But tomorrow is church, and I need to go even if I have excuses A-Z. But I seriously get lower back pain sitting on the pews and chairs that is hard to live with, and back pain combined with a moderate helping of social anxiety is a bad combination. When I take something that works for the pain --- Aleve --- it seems to react with my Lexapro and make me very sleepy. Being sleepy at church is really embarrassing. Well, the weather is cool now, so if I get too uncomfortable or sleepy I can go sit in the car --- and lean the seat back.

Well, while I'm on the subject of back pain, this chair can be uncomfortable too. I have to move around a lot and lean back. I know I spend too much time in front of the computer, but I do enjoy it. Hopefully as I lose weight and walk more, the back pain will lessen.

Pointless Information
Sometimes I feel like Capitalizing Things that don't need Capitalization, especially when I haven't slept enough, which makes me Silly. It's becoming A Little Hobby of mine. I hope it isn't Too Annoying. At least I Spell Correctly and use Decent Grammar. Just thought you might like to Know (that I'm Insane). If I weren't trying so hard to fill up This Blog, I would probably shut up now. But, you're not Lucky. Just Remember, you Chose to read This. I would never, however, ever presume to tell you to Get A Life.

Speaking of Pointless Information, I thought I would do a Web Search on
Google
for Pointless Information, and here is my Favorite Find:

everything --- lives up well to the topic --- Lots of Fun there. I found this gem of a(n) Haiku there:

tall wrinkled mountains
soft white blankets each dark fold
underwear and socks

AND this link:

BLORF --- click on the letters and get More Different BLORF

And now I will Peruse the Rest and see what else it has to offer...

Dad Is Better Than TV
Because we don't have any cable TV or even an antenna, we often talk to our children in the evenings. Scott and I like to hang around in our bedroom. He's on one side of the room with his desk, and I'm one the other. We're online a lot, or we read or whatever. Since we have a king-size bed, our children are often draped on it when they aren't playing video games. I don't remember what started the converstaion, but Scott was in the Marine Corps right out of high school, and we got into a converstaion about it. I begged him to tell the kids some stuff about basic training. He kept saying he didn't remember that much, or that it wasn't interesting. But he started telling some stories, and the kids were listening for hours.

His experiences were really interesting. Even I hadn't heard most of them -- ever. Scott used to be really quiet, but I guess after all these years I've started to wear off on him. He pulled out his "yearbook" that they receive at the end of basic, and was showing them pictures and telling them about his different buddies. It was GREAT. I wish I could share some of his stories here, but I'm afraid I wouldn't quite do them justice.

Zuul is in heat
Poor baby. We need to get her fixed. Actually, Broken would make more sense, wouldn't it? Anyway, she's psycho right now, but at least she isn't really vocal, and singing loud, annoying Kitty Songs like some cats. It's funny to watch her, though. She runs really close to the floor, stops, and puts her butt in the air. Scott called her a low rider. Hopefully we will have the money to get her fixed before the next time... And then there's Gammie to fix next. $$$

That's me. I don't have money or time for fancy costumes. I used to sew them (ha-ha, I was a lunatic), but not anymore. I just go through the archives of The Dollar Stretcher for fast, easy relief --- costume ideas, makeup recipes & other ideas. It's definitely worth a visit. Jason was a "cereal killer" one year. We got the idea from this site. We took an old shirt and hat and glued those tiny cereal boxes all over it. We stuck plastic knives in them and added a little red paint for blood. It was fast, cheap, and a big hit.

I lost 1 pound tonight at Weight Watchers! It's thinner, even though it's not as good as I'd hoped. I did very, very well with my points since I've been blogging. I even had 15 Flex Points left over that I didn't even want to use, plus I earned a couple of activity points this week. I haven't been as hungry the last few days, and I'm very grateful.

I made a new page today that's linked in my right column called *2Flower's* Cheat Sheet. I'm using it for a reference to make it easier to copy and paste what I need instead of having to search. All the credit goes to Mandarin Design, because it all the ideas came from there. The site is so big that I decided to put all the stuff I use together in one place since I found myself going back there dozens of times a day -- not that I'm going to stop. There is so much there, and it's a really fun place.

I've done pretty well on getting the house straightened up, and I almost have the laundry done thanks to my routines on my blog. It's working!

Well, I'm going to quit now and do some reading. I'm actually going to go to bed before midnight tonight.

This is part of Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin's talk in General Conference that I loved called "Three Choices":

"In most cases, growth comes slowly--one step at a time. We understand this when it comes to mastering a musical instrument, becoming an accomplished athlete, or flying a jet aircraft. Yet, we often can scarcely forgive ourselves when we don't make the progress we expect in all areas of our own lives.

Great sculptors and artists spend countless hours perfecting their talents. They don't pick up a chisel or a brush and palette, expecting immediate perfection. They understand that they will make many errors as they learn, but they start with the basics, the key fundamentals first.

So it is with us.

We become masters of our lives in the same way--by focusing on first things first. We all have a pretty good idea of the most important decisions we need to make--decisions that will improve our lives and bring us greater happiness and peace. That is where we should start. That is where we should place our greatest effort.

Each night before I go to bed, I take out a small card and write a list of the things I need to do the next day in order of their priority.

When I arrive at the office in the morning, I check my card and put all my efforts into the first item on the list. When I accomplish that item, I move on to the second and so on. Some days, I finish every item on my list. On other days, some tasks are not completed. I don't become discouraged, however, because I'm focusing my energies on the things that matter most."

BTW, the three choices in his talk are:
1. Choose to begin repentance now
2. Choose your priorities
3. Choose the right

This was one of my favorite talks this time around.

I was not succeeding with a separate blog for my "to do" list. Since I want to be following what I learned from FlyLady (which is to have routines written down), I thought I would make boxes for my rountines. I was going to wait and only focus on my weight loss, but I need order to be happy, and I'm a SHE (side-tracked home executive).

Jason Blogged!
Jason finally blogged again! I've been harrassing him for awhile. He's good, and I hope he keeps it up. I keep telling him to write something different sometimes. He writes a lot of fantasy, which is great. I just want him to practice other writing styles.

Jason also got his hair cut today, or as Brother Stevens would say, "got his ears lowered." He looks good.

Cassandra Is Looking at Baby Names
Cassandra called yesterday, and she and baby are doing alright. She and Mark are still job-hunting. They are also looking at baby names. I seriously hope that Cassandra picks the name, as some of Mark's less revolting choices were "Drake" and "Neville." But we don't know the baby's sex yet. "Avery" was a name that didn't make me want to puke too bad. I'm trying to look on the bright side of grandmotherhood, aren't I?

The Cats
There were teeth marks all over the butter this morning when I went into the kitchen. Someone left the lid off the butter dish. It had to be Gammie and Zuul --- that did the teeth marks. I doubt they took the lid off the butter dish.

Charity and Mom Have "Toe Thumbs"
An unfortunate but interesting trait I inherited from my maternal grandmother who had one normal thumb and one "toe thumb." Click here to see the freakshow.

Padi Gives Our Bed Her Own Personal Rinse
Scott was holding Piglet last night right before bedtime, and I noticed Padi pawing the bed up by the pillows. That's because she had peed on it there. I guess she was jealous that Scott was paying attention to Piglet. She hit Christopher's bed last week. I guess she's just really unbalanced right now because she's in heat. Maybe it's like PMS, and if so I guess she has a right to be b*tchy. She is a female dog after all. But I will never get caught up with the laundry with all her help.

Cedar Is Tenacious
Cedar is Christopher's little female hamster. She's the one who took a ride in Zuul's jaws and lived to tell the tale. We had to literally pry her out of Zuul's jaws is more like it. She must have at least 9 lives herself, as the cats have managed to go in for the kill many, many times. I finally moved her and the houseplants into my bathroom. Cedar is a very persistant individual, as she has managed to unscrew some of the "doors" off her cage in the past and escape. She lets me pick her up again-- no problem. She shouldn't be running around on the floor with our cats on the prowl. Now that I've taped them shut, she just tries and tries to to chew her way through a tiny ventilation hole. She doesn't seem to be making any progress at all, but she doesn't give up. It sort of reminds me of Shawshank Redemption. All she needs is the tiny hammer.

And that's it for today's family news...

I think a lot of people are really confused about the Terri Schindler-Schiavo case, which is understandable since the media are mis-reporting and under-reporting the facts. The truth with documentation can be found at her website.

The truth be known, there have been a lot of weird things going on since her mysterious "collapse," which was not a heart attack. The family has had x-rays done which show that she has had a lot of fractures all over, and neck injuries consistant with strangulation. Plus, there are videos of her which show her responding to her mother, etc. She's not in a coma or PVS. Many doctors believe she can be rehabilitated, but her sweet husband (who is living with a woman who is his "fiancee" and has 2 kids with her) will not allow any rehabilitation, and has denied even the most basic care for her in some situations, despite a huge amount of money in a settlement he won when he sued for malpractice. It is only her sweet hubby's word that she didn't want to live. And she is not terminally ill, but he keeps putting her in a hospice (for people with 6 months or less to live). The only way to kill her is to stop giving her food and water. We don't allow that to happen to death row inmates or animals. She has a feeding tube, athough she can swallow (because she doesn't drool). The feeding tube is just more convienient, plus it avoids the possibility of aspiration. When they removed the feeding tube, it was with the court-order that she could not be fed by mouth. She was even denied communion as part of her last rites.

Michael Schiavo has obviously moved on in his personal life by starting another family. It is highly suspicious that he continues to "worry" about her. Her family is begging to take care of her at all personal costs, and all he cares about is making sure she dies. And from what I've read, his whole attitude toward Terri seems quite hostile -- not that of a loving husband.

I almost said I was sorry for ranting, but then I remembered --- it's my blog. So I shall rant and rant and rant, LOL. But seriously, I've been following this case for a long time on WorldNetDaily, which has been the only major news source that has been following the story.

Update:
I just heard on the radio that Michael Schiavo is now refusing to allow Terri's parents to visit her. What a horrible man.

You are Form 3, Unicorn: The Innocent.

"And The Unicorn knew she wasn't meant to
go into the Dark Wood. Disregarding the advice
given to her by the spirits, Unicorn went
inside and bled silver blood.. For her
misdeed, the world knew evil."

Some examples of the Unicorn Form are Eve
(Christian) and Pandora (Greek).
The Unicorn is associated with the concept of
innocence, the number 3, and the element of
water.
Her sign is the twilight sun.

As a member of Form 3, you are a curious
individual. You are drawn to new things and
become fascinated with ideas you've never come
in contact with before. Some people may say
you are too nosey, but it's only because you
like getting to the bottom of things and
solving them. Unicorns are the best friends to
have because they are inquisitive.

I should get around to talking about our Family Home Evening last night. We didn't really plan anything, and none of us were too enthusiastic, but we went ahead and did it--- and it turned out to be really fun. We sang "We Thank Thee O God For A Prophet," then had an opening prayer by Christopher. Jason gave an impromptu lesson about the passover celebration, and how everything in it is a symbol of Jesus Christ. I'm sure he learned about it in Seminary recently. Then we sang "The Spirit of God," and Charity gave the closing prayer.
Pictionary
Afterwards, we had a lot of fun playing our homemade version of Pictionary. A few months ago we typed up a lot of random names of people, shows, movies, common phrases, short scripture quotes and names, etc., and then cut them apart and put them in a hat. (There is really no reason to buy the game for $24.95 IMHO, unless you have no imagination at all). Then we divided into 2 teams, the Mom Team and the Dad Team-- Mom Team won! :) We draw a picture on the white board for our team to guess (in about 3 min.), and if we don't guess the other team gets a chance to guess. Some of them are really hard. We keep all the slips of paper to reuse someday, but so far we haven't had to. We just keep them separated in 2 zipper bags, one marked "done," and we just put the ones we've used in there. No other activity we've done has ever been this popular with everyone. Twister"Twister" is always popular with the kids, but Scott and I don't really enjoy contorting ourselves anymore.

Want some Pictionary examples?:

Star Wars
"He's dead Jim"
"Flat as a pancake"

Look for future FHE updates. Maybe we'll find something else fun to do next week.

Bored to Tears, Woman Hurls TV Out Window
A 25-year-old German woman in Berlin got so mad that there was nothing good on TV that she threw her TV out her fifth floor apartment window. "There was nothing decent on so I just threw the thing out the window," said Veronika K. Later she calmed down and watched TV on another set.

Interesting... when we got mad because there was nothing good to watch, we just got rid of our satellite dish. That way we save money every month, and if we want to watch a video or a DVD, we have something to play it on. But she was right --- there is nothing good to watch.

NEWS.com.au | Man nearly dies eating slugs (October 20, 2003)

This guy must have regretted the cost of this $20 dare. He ate 2 slugs, and contracted eosinophilic meningitis (swelling of the brain membranes) five weeks after eating two slugs in 2001, which was just reported in the Medical Journal of Australia yesterday. He had to have fluid drained from his brain and spent 17 days in hospital, and it was five months before he was able to full time studies and sports. Apparently, he wasn't anxious to share the story, as it took repeated questioning to discover that he had eaten the slugs.

NEWS.com.au | No cure for songs stuck in your head (October 21, 2003)

There is actually a name for those songs that get stuck in your head. (like a meat cleaver) They are called "earworms," and someone (brave or stupid) actually researched this problem. The term "earworm" was coined by University of Cincinnati marketing professor James Kellaris, who has been reaseaching the phenomena since 2000. He has heard from people all over the world who are looking for help or offering advice for "earworms."

Songs picked as most likely to become stuck were: "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", the Chili's restaurant "baby back ribs" jingle and "Who Let the Dogs Out." But most songs fit into the "Other" category, because they vary greatly from person to person.

He said one theory is that stuck songs are "the brain's attempt to resolve missing information," and that retrieving the forgotten lyrics of a song will provide closure that "unsticks" an earworm.

Interesting... This is a topic that interests me, because I get these really bad, and so does the rest of my family. I'm going to survey my family today, and I'll post the results here:

(links are to lyrics---some even have midis! ;) This is if you want to test the theory of retrieving the missing lyrics)

Michelle: McArthur Park, Genius In France (2 months with this one, ARRRGGGHHH), I Love Paris, Barney Song (I Love You...), Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang (Help Me!)
Jason (17): It's All About the Pentiums, Jurassic Park, Cotton-Eyed Joe, My Heart Will Go On, Barney Song (I Love You...), Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang
Cassandra (who called this afternoon, and was SO glad I asked, LOL)(16): One Way Or Another, Barney Song (I Love You...)
Charity (13): A Spoonful of Sugar, I Love Paris, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Hakuna Matata, Colors of the Wind (Pocahantas)
Ian (11): I Will Survive (because of MIB II), Fox Channel jingle ("Fox 5, the Home of Comedy...")
Christopher (9): Hakuna Matata, Orinoco Flow, Men In Black

If you have any "earworms" you want to share, add them in the comments section.

Update:
People who write kids songs for movies and TV shows are evil. My kids have brought back to my memory some of the most vile and pervasive songs ever written. I think Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang was about the worst. We stopped watching most children's TV programming in about 1994 when my brain turned to oatmeal.

1. I woke up to Padi throwing up on the bedroom carpet.
2. Obi was sick again, and his kennel was nasty. I think Scott expected me to deal with it, but it is his dog. We were both trying to pass the buck on this one.
3. Jason missed seminary again, and doesn't know why he didn't get up (I do, he plays on his computer until really late, and then stays up all night doing his laundry)
4. I didn't get enough sleep.
5. It took me almost an hour to update my seller account on Amazon, because the website isn't laid out very well at all.
6. I kept a whole bunch of hardcover books that my dad gave me by my desk for a couple of months until we got our new checking account, but only one book is worth more than a dime -- I'm serious. The only one I can sell is worth $5.50. So I'm wondering why I just assumed instead of at least just checking the values 2 months ago and giving away all of them except the one.
7. I hardly accomplished anything yesterday.
8. I need to clean out the fridge.
9. I have about 6 loads of laundry to do.
10. Jason didn't do his dishes last night.
11. Padi is whining at me to go out while I'm trying to type, but there's a 50-50 chance that she doesn't need to, but is just bored. Should I risk ignoring her?
12. Scott made biscuits this morning, and I don't get any.
13. There are only 2 cokes left, and they are mine. Nevertheless, I will get constant lobbying from the children today for them until they're gone. And when they are gone, I will get constant lobbying to go to the store for more.

14. And yesterday, I got a letter from AKC telling me that my miniature dachshund's registration has been put on referral because they did a DNA verification, and there is some discrepancy on the parentage of a previous generation of dogs, which basically means to me that I paid $350 dollars for a registered miniature dachshund that is worthless. Not that Piglet herself is worthless, she's just not monetarily worth that much because she's not registered. And so now I'm in a quandary. Do I seek financial compensation? I want to, but how many of this woman's dogs are affected by this? I mean, is she going to have every person who ever bought a puppy from her wanting their money back? Am I going to have to take her to court to get some money back? Is that going to make me in a very bad mood?

I stayed up and worked on my template for my 101 Things About Me page. It looks a lot better, but I'm still not happy with it.

I know there was a lot more I wanted to say, but I can't remember it all, and I hardly have the remaining brain cells to do a good job tonight. I'll write more tomorrow. I really should try to sleep.

Here is a new entry for my book reviews blog. I thought I would post it here as well as on Amazon.com. I love to do book reviews, although I haven't taken the time to write very many. This is a great book:

Daddy-Long-Legs

""""" A Classic You Can Read in a Day
I've read this book a few times, and every time I come back to it, I can't put it down. It's short (under 200 pages) & sweet. The book was published in 1912, and is one-of-a-kind, as it consists almost entirely of letters written by Judy. Judy is an orphan from the John Grier Home, an orphange she was raised in since she was a baby. Her future seems very bleak until one day she is unexpectedly offered the opportunity for a paid college education to become an author by one of the orphanage's trustees. In return, she has to write monthly letters to the unknown trustee who is known as Mr. John Smith. She calls him "Daddy-Long-Legs" because she saw his tall shadow as he left the building. Her letters are very entertaining, and often impertinent. That is really all I want to tell of the story, but here are a couple of quotes from the book that I loved:

"It isn't the big troubles in life that require character. Anybody can rise to a crisis and face a crushing tragedy with courage, but to meet the petty hazards of the day with a laugh -- I really think that requires spirit.

"I think the most necessary quality for any person to have is imagination. It makes people able to put themselves in other people's places. It makes them kind and sympathetic and understanding. It ought to be cultivated in children."

I would say playing The Sims, but since I can't right now, I will say that installing, troubleshooting and attempting to play The Sims is an even bigger time-waster. I LOVE the game, and it worked up until July. Every so often since then I attempt to re-install, etc. But, it always messes up, crashes, etc. I've figured out that it could be one of about 47,000 problems. Anyway, if I could play it, I have all the expansion packs up to Superstar. The last one is coming out soon--- Makin' Magic. I wonder if I will ever get to play that one... I don't have The Sims Online, though. It doesn't sound like fun to me, and I wouldn't want to pay a monthly fee even if it did. Maybe someday I'll be able to waste my time playing again.

I think the majority of my grouchiness is because Terri-Schindler-Schiavo is still dying from court-mandated starvation and dehydration. Maybe it shouldn't bother me so much, but it makes it hard for me to think of other things and get on with my life knowing what is happening to her in this country. I'm just so angry and frustrated. Here is a wonderful open letter to Gov. Bush by Tom Ambrose on WorldNetDaily that's very succinct.

I haven't been doing my
*Suggestions* list too well, and I didn't even try yesterday. At this point (6:45 a.m.), I don't dare put that much down, because I'm in a really bad mood. It's probably lack of sleep, or pehaps it's that Scott is trying to engage me in meaningful conversation about the book of Hebrews, and I'm just not a big fan of Paul's writings yet. I think I get more out of Isaiah. I wish I could find 1/4 the interest in scripture study that he has.

I think I need to go back to bed when Scott leaves. I may do my Pilates video first; I don't know. Exercise always seems like a better idea for the ever-elusive tomorrow.

I started reading Daddy-Long-Legs again a few days ago, but for some reason I couldn't get it to show up in my right column. I think it's because I was reading 6 books, and I think only 5 will show up. O.K., now it shows up. Geez, so I can only be currently reading 5 books. Maybe that will keep me more focused. I know I show read them one at a time, but I really have to read what I'm in the mood for. Anyway, I have 2 pages left. I read almost the entire book yesterday, but couldn't keep my eyes open for the last 2 pages.
